Robert Deiss, MD, is a Clinical Associate Professor with the Division of Infectious Disease and Global Public Health at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). He provides HIV Primary Care services to approximately 250 patients at the Owen Clinic and leads the Transitions of Care Program for recently hospitalized patients, many of whom have substance use and mental health disorders. Prior to joining UCSD, he was a Research Physician at Naval Medical Center San Diego and also spent a year in Mozambique with the organization “Doctors Without Borders.” Additionally, for five years, he was an internist at San Diego County Medical Health. Key academic interests include ensuring access and equitable treatment for people who use drugs, including HIV treatment and prevention services. He is a member of the Peer Support Program.
