Associate Professor Michael Montalto graduated from medical school at the University of Melbourne in 1986, and completed his PhD there in 1999 on measuring quality in Hospital in the Home care. He has been heavily involved in policy, research and clinical care in Hospital in the Home since 1993 and was the first appointed Director of a Hospital in the Home Unit in Australia in 1994.
He is currently the Unit Head of Hospital in the Home at Epworth Healthcare, and was previously the Director of Royal Melbourne Hospital HAH. He has introduced a medical model of HAH to all 3 hospitals, including creating the first HAH registrar positions in Australia. He has published over 40 papers in peer reviewed journals. He is currently a consultant to the Singapore Ministry of Health for the introduction of HIH in that country, and has assisted numerous others in their development of HAH.
