A native Californian, Dr. Katie Hirst grew up in the Bay Area before attending Stanford University for her dual undergraduate degree. She attended medical school at UC San Diego, where she stayed on for a dual residency and then academic appointments in Family Medicine and Psychiatry. She developed an opioid addiction following the births of her children via C-section in 2008 and 2011, and left academic medicine to seek treatment in late 2013. She returned to work in 2016 at BOLD Health Medical Group and has been the co-owner and CEO since 2020. She now serves as Medical Director at several residential treatment facilities, and her work with individual patients at BOLD Health includes psychotherapy as well as medication consultation and management.
