Alan Friedman is the Founder and CEO of J3P Health, where he advises and coaches leading physicians, nurses, medical schools, healthcare systems, professional societies, and medical groups worldwide. His insights have shaped healthcare leadership and performance across North America, South America, Europe, and Australia.
His professional mission is deeply personal. Inspired by his daughter’s complex medical journey, Friedman has become a champion of emotional intelligence in healthcare leadership. This perspective, grounded in organizational psychology and clinical competence, drives J3P Health’s transformative programs designed to enhance the well-being and performance of healthcare professionals.
He serves as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Medical Quality (AJMQ) and teaches as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s Master’s in Medical Management program. A lifelong learner, he recently completed the Executive Program for Growing Businesses at Stanford Business School and IESE Business School’s Artificial Intelligence for Executives program.
He holds an M.A. in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University, a Certificate in Management Practices from New York University, and a B.A. in Consumer Affairs from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the Columbia Business School Coaching Intensive Certification Program (CCCP) and is certified in multiple leadership and assessment tools, including the Learning Versatility Index (LVI), CCL Benchmarks 360, and the Hogan Assessment Suite. He is also a Master Trainer in Deeper Signals, AON Adept 15, and the Change Leadership Behavior Inventory (CLBI).
Beyond his academic and consulting work, Friedman co-founded and co-chaired the Advisory Council for the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and now serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for ANEWAYFORPURPOSE, a nonprofit advancing integrated employment and social programming for people with disabilities in small business environments.
Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions at Abbott Laboratories, CR Bard, Neurometrix, and Johnson & Johnson, gaining deep industry experience at the intersection of healthcare, organizational development, and leadership.
