Director for Policy and Advocacy Patients for Patient Safety US
Marty Hatlie is a long-time patient safety advocate, active in the field for more than 30 years. Currently he serves as Director for Policy and Advocacy with Patients for Patient Safety US (PFPS US), a patient-led nonprofit organization dedicated to the pursuit of zero preventable patient harm in the United States. He is active in federal health system transformation work, contributing to numerous improvement projects and campaigns developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality, and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, among others. Hatlie currently serves on the National Steering Committee that oversees implementation of Safer Together: The National Action Plan on Patient and Workforce Safety as well as the Certified Professional in Patient Safety Board of Directors.
Previously, he worked with the American Medical Association to establish the National Patient Safety Foundation in 1997 and served as its founding Executive Director. He also contributed to the development of the international Patients for Patient Safety network, launched by the World Health Organization in 2005.
